League of California Community Foundations

The League of California Community Foundations (“LCCF,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard information when you visit www.lccf.org and related subdomains we operate, including members.lccf.org (collectively, the “Site”), or otherwise interact with us online. By using the Site, you agree to the practices described below.
1. Scope
This Policy applies to information collected through the Site and through email, forms, and event registrations linked from the Site. It does not apply to:
- Websites operated by our affiliated community foundations, which are independent organizations with their own privacy practices.
- Third-party platforms we link to (e.g., social media, donation processors, event registration tools, Candid/GuideStar), which are governed by those parties’ own policies.
- Information you provide offline outside the context of the Site.
2. Information We Collect
Information you provide to us
- Contact and membership information — name, title, organization, email, phone, and mailing address when you join LCCF, register for events, subscribe to our newsletter, apply for a job posting, or use our contact forms.
- Account information — if you access the Member Hub, your username, password (stored hashed), and member-foundation affiliation.
- Communications — the content of messages you send us and our responses.
- Survey and program data — information you submit through member surveys, data collection tools, or learning-cohort participation.
Information collected automatically
When you visit the Site, we and our service providers may automatically collect:
- IP address, approximate location derived from IP, browser type, device identifiers, operating system, referring URL, pages viewed, links clicked, and timestamps.
- Cookies, pixels, and similar tracking technologies (see Section 6).
Information from third parties
- Member foundations and partners who provide your contact information so we can include you in convenings, working groups, or member communications.
- Service providers who help us run events, email campaigns, and the Site.
We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16. The Site is intended for adult professionals working in or with community foundations.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Site and Member Hub.
- Provide membership services, respond to inquiries, and deliver requested content.
- Plan and administer events, convenings, learning labs, and surveys.
- Send newsletters, advocacy alerts, and program updates (you can unsubscribe at any time).
- Conduct sector research and analysis, generally in aggregated or de-identified form.
- Comply with legal obligations, including those applicable to 501(c)(3) public charities, and to protect the rights, safety, and property of LCCF, our members, and the public.
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own direct marketing or cross-context behavioral advertising.
4. How We Share Information
We share information only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers who perform functions on our behalf (e.g., website hosting, email delivery, event registration, analytics, payment processing) under contracts that limit their use of the information.
- Member foundations and partners, where you have voluntarily participated in a joint convening, working group, coalition, or co-sponsored event and the sharing is reasonably necessary to support that activity.
- Legal and safety — when required by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect rights, property, or safety.
- Business transitions — in connection with a merger, affiliation, dissolution, or transfer of operations to a successor organization.
- With your consent — in any other circumstance with your direction or permission.
5. Your California Privacy Rights
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (“CCPA/CPRA”), gives you the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Right to know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, the sources, the purposes for collecting it, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.
- Right to delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions.
- Right to correct inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal information (we do not sell or share your information as those terms are defined).
- Right to limit the use of “sensitive personal information” (we do not use sensitive personal information beyond what is necessary to provide the services you request).
- Right to non-discrimination for exercising any of these rights.
To exercise any of these rights, email info@lccf.org with the subject line “California Privacy Request.” We will verify your identity using information already in our records before responding. You may also authorize an agent to make a request on your behalf; we will require proof of authorization and verification of your identity.
Categories of personal information collected in the past 12 months, using CCPA category definitions: identifiers; customer records information; commercial information (event registrations, membership); internet or electronic network activity; geolocation (approximate, derived from IP); professional or employment-related information; and inferences drawn from the above for our legitimate operating purposes.
6. Cookies and Tracking
Our Site uses cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:
- Strictly necessary — to operate the Site, authenticate Member Hub users, and remember your preferences.
- Analytics — we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use the Site so we can improve it. Google Analytics sets cookies that collect information such as IP address (truncated/anonymized), pages viewed, time on site, and referring source. Google processes this information as our service provider. You can learn more at policies.google.com/privacy and opt out of Google Analytics across all sites using the browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
- Functionality — to support embedded video, accessibility tools (UserWay), social media widgets, and similar features.
Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies through their settings. If you disable cookies, some Site features may not work as intended. We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals where applicable as an opt-out of any sale or sharing of personal information.
7. Third-Party Links, Embeds, and Services
The Site contains links to and embedded content from third parties, including but not limited to:
- Member foundation websites and the Member Hub login portal
- Social media platforms (Facebook, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube)
- Candid/GuideStar (transparency seal)
- Event registration and email marketing tools
We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third parties. Review their policies before providing personal information.
8. Data Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect the information we collect, including encrypted transmission (HTTPS) and access controls on the Member Hub. No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Data Retention
We retain personal information for as long as needed to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy, to comply with our legal, tax, audit, and recordkeeping obligations as a 501(c)(3) public charity, and to resolve disputes and enforce agreements. When no longer needed, information is deleted or de-identified.
10. Email Communications
If you receive email from us, you can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any message or by emailing info@lccf.org. Transactional communications related to your membership, event registrations, or account security may continue regardless of marketing preferences.
11. Accessibility
LCCF is committed to making the Site accessible. We use accessibility tools and aim to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards. If you encounter an accessibility barrier, please contact us using the information below and we will work to address it.
12. Users Outside California
LCCF is based in California and operates in the United States. If you access the Site from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, which may have data protection laws different from those in your jurisdiction. LCCF does not target the Site to residents of the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom and does not offer goods or services there within the meaning of the GDPR.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide additional notice (such as a banner on the Site or an email to members). Your continued use of the Site after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
