Americans trust local news. They say it does the best job of keeping them informed, holding leaders accountable and amplifying stories in their communities. Press Forward is a new initiative launched in 2023 to catalyze a local news renaissance that will reshape the local news landscape and re-center local journalism as a force for community cohesion, civic participation, and government accountability. This broad coalition of funders have joined together to enhance nonprofit, public, and for-profit news and information. Local Press Forward chapters are an opportunity to create place-based initiatives, driven by the specific information needs of their communities.

We invite you to join your community foundation peers for a briefing session hosted by the League, where you will:

– Get an up-to-date snapshot of the state of local news in California from the UC Berkeley School of Journalism

– Meet Press Forward’s inaugural director Dale R. Anglin and Associate Director Christina Shih

– Hear from the three California regions that are already launching Press Forward Local chapters – with leadership from community foundations

– Ask questions and share ideas about supporting local news in your own community

This session is open to all staff and board members of any League-affiliated community foundation.
